1980s
Edna Earle Williams Noe 88MPH of Dunwoody, Ga., on Feb. 15, 2021, at the age of 81. Noe was a dental hygienist with Dr. Nick Smith in Atlanta. She grew up in Toledo, Ohio, and graduated from Ohio State University with double majors in dental hygiene and teaching. Her MPH degree from Rollins focused on health policy and management. Noe, who served as director of the ESOL program at Dunwoody Baptist Church where she was a member, traveled abroad to every continent except Antarctica, participated in the Wynterhall Bridge Club, hiked with the Fab 5 group, and loved visiting Anna Maria Island near St. Petersburg, Fla. She is survived by her husband of 46 years, Lewis Noe, two sons, three stepsons, and five grandchildren.
1990s
Deborah L. Cook 99MPH of Decatur, Ga., on March 5, 2021. She was a native of Atlanta who loved nature, her pets, traveling, scuba diving, and designing beautiful costumes for the annual Dragon Con convention. Cook graduated from Bryn Mawr College with a degree in sociology in 1975, studied physics at Georgia Tech, and received an MPH in behavioral, social, and health education sciences. Cook served as the senior administrator for William Foege, professor emeritus of international health at Emory University, when he was director of The Carter Center. She was an Emory University staff member for 26 years and retired from The Carter Center’s Task Force for Child Survival in December 2013. She is survived by a son.
2000s
Go Tanaka 05MPH of Chiyoda, Japan, in July 2021. He was the executive technical adviser for the Japan International Cooperation Agency. Tanaka received an MD from Osaka University in 1998 and a doctor of philosophy degree from Juntendo University in Japan. He previously served as the deputy director of the National Hospitals Division in the Japanese Ministry of Health, Labour, and Welfare and as director of medical policy and planning at the World Health Organization. He is survived by his wife, Miho Tanaka.
Jane Lynch Todd 74FM 07MPH of Madison, Miss., on Aug. 13, 2020. Todd was an assistant professor of pediatric cardiology in the Department of Pediatrics’ Children’s Heart Center at the Emory School of Medicine. She was affiliated with multiple hospitals. Todd received an MD from Tulane University School of Medicine. She is survived by her husband, N. Wendell Todd Jr 71MR 74MR 04MPH, and two sons, James Todd and Norman W. Todd III 97C.
